3 Tips for Cleaning Deep Fryers

Deep fryers are a great kitchen essential for those who like whipping up their own concoctions and trying out new recipes. Because the usual kitchen pan can’t completely submerge ingredients in oil because of insufficient height, deep fryers are the kitchen appliance of choice for making homemade fries, chips, and other delicious snacks and dishes. If you use your deep fryer often, you might be disturbed by how easily it can become covered in grease and residue, and that’s because of the amount of oil that it contains at any given time. If you want to make sure your deep fryer is maintained clean, follow these 3 helpful tips for cleaning deep fryers.

  1. Wipe Everything First – Your deep fryer has probably gotten quite greasy over time, even on surfaces that don’t directly make contact with oil. When you’re going to clean your deep fryer, completely drain the oil and remove any detachable parts. Using a clean damp cloth, wipe down all the surfaces to make sure the grease is cleared out as much as possible before rinsing any of the parts. This is because grease and oil can build up in your pipes and cause stoppage later on, so be careful to dump any excess oil down the drain.

  1. Use a Toothbrush for the Strainer – Upon closer inspection, you might find that the strainer that comes with your no oil fryer is covered in small particles from previous meals and dishes that you’ve made. This charred black residue can be very difficult to remove with a sponge, so use a toothbrush instead. Rinse the strainer in water and dishwashing soap. In a separate container, mix 1 part water with 1 part dishwashing soap, and then dip the toothbrush head into the mixture. Use the toothbrush to work away any residue, and then wash the entire strainer with a sponge and soap. Rinse and leave out to air dry.

  1. Soak the Oil Compartment – It can be tough to get rid of the greasy feeling inside the oil compartment, but there are ways that you can get it clean easier. Take some warm water and completely fill up the compartment. Add some baking soda into the water and let it soak for 15-30 minutes. Once finished, drain the water using the oil drain feature of the deep fryer. Again, take some baking soda and warm water, put a small amount in the best home deep fryer, and scrub it down with a sponge.
